Big Schools Birdwatch 2021 25 January 2021

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the RSPB’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch – the schools’ version of the Big Garden Birdwatch, the world’s biggest wildlife survey. The children survey the birds they see in their school grounds and send the results to the RSPB. Submission for results is open between 5th January – 22nd February.

With delivering learning both face to face and remotely, we know that Big Schools’ Birdwatch won’t be your priority. However, if you’re working with groups in school, it’s a great way to keep your pupils engaged and entertained. Our pack comes with loads of curriculum–based resources for you to use, from counting using tens frames and subitising, to instructions for making bird feeders and tasty treats for your school’s feathered visitors!

Children will love the chance to get outside and experience an hour in the life of a conservation scientist – and they’ll be playing an important role in helping the RSPB track bird movements and populations all over the country.

To register and access your free resources and activities, go to https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and-learning/for-teachers/schools-birdwatch/ and sign up!

Don’t forget that you can help children not currently in school take part too, by directing them to the original Big Garden Birdwatch: https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/
