South Eastern Education & Library Board

The South Eastern Education and Library Board is the local authority for education, library and youth services in five district council areas: Ards, Castlereagh, Down, Lisburn and North Down.

Covering most of Co Down and a small part of Co Antrim, the area served by the Board stretches from Bangor southwards to Newcastle and eastwards from Lisburn and surrounding area over to Portaferry on the Ards Peninsula.

Under the terms of the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989, the SEELB has a statutory duty to provide curriculum advisory and support services for schools in its area. In providing these support services, Curriculum Advisory and Support Service (CASS) Officers are committed to the Board's mission statement:

"To raise the standards of learning and levels of achievement of the people of the Board’s area through the provision of high quality education, library and youth services." Curriculum advisory and support services include school-based training and development, and a broad range of courses provided at Board Headquarters in Dundonald and Resource Centres at Lisburn and Downpatrick.
